It is unfortunate this is another case of “no free lunch” to our society.Ĭha-ching: The now famous TV commercials flooding local channels and touting the sound of cash register is not the sound of money coming into your wallet if you bought the contract with no down payment. The entire exercise amounts to a nice cocktail party conversation for the environmentally conscious upper-income echelon of society, and simultaneous tax revenue reduction and heavy subsidy flow from consumers without solar panels to those who installed them. However, a little digging reveals they are also literally subsidized by consumers without solar panels on the roof. Subsidies to the rich: Green conscious people purchasing with their own money but using state and federal subsidies and income tax credit amounting some 35 percent of the total construction expense and having a net metering arrangement with the local utility could feel good about their effort to contribute to reducing this nation’s dependency on fossil fuel. We conclude today with unfortunately a negative observation. This series started in mid-August and is its seventh week.
